I am totally obsessed with these black and white newborn and family portraits. This was a family friend who contacted me about photographing their new baby girl. And I’m so glad they did! What a beautiful session!

I think it’s wonderful when parents and family members want to be in on their little one’s newborn pictures. There’s nothing like capturing that sweet relationship–so new, but already so strong! We got some great portraits of this couple and their beautiful baby daughter.

My style naturally leans toward the minimal (although I’m happy to accommodate whatever style preferences you have), and these black and white photos are right up my alley. I’ve always loved the way that photos like this can lend a session some dramatic flair while still being simple and timeless.

Even though black and white pictures go with just about everything, we decided to tie our color photos into the same scheme. You can’t go wrong with white (it’s one of my faves for newborn and family portraits), and my black floral bucket gave us exactly the right balance of color. A couple of pretty headbands, a flower, and some swaddle shots in my wooden heart bowl softened up the look of our session perfectly.
